Take precautions against the powerful tropical sun. Apply sunscreen 15–20 minutes before you go out, and reapply regularly. Wear hats and long-sleeved loose clothing to protect your skin. Avoid direct sunlight 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
Be especially careful when you are swimming or sailing, since the coolness of the water and breeze may make you forget how strong the sun is. Wear a T-shirt when snorkeling for long periods to protect your back, and be sure to apply sunscreen to the back of your legs.
