Sammy’s Kitchen (Mid-Atlantic Boat & Sports Club, 34 North Shore Rd., tel. 441/295-0172 office or 441/296-2697 kitchen, lunch and dinner noon–9:30 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 8 a.m.–noon Sun.) serves up chicken, burgers, and island comfort food like peas ’n’ rice and macaroni ’n’ cheese during the week and draws a loud, jovial bar crowd on Friday nights.
But the roadside club is best known for its authentic Sunday morning codfish and potatoes breakfasts, appreciated by club members and other regulars who gather here for a laid-back café-style spread at the popular social and boating club, which sits a few feet from the water’s edge. Be warned: Breakfast starts early and only lasts “until it’s all gone,” says a club staffer.
Take in a bird’s-eye view of the North Shore seascape at Out of Bounds (Ocean View Golf Club [1], 2 Barkers Hill, tel. 441/295-4916, fax 441/295-3692, 7 a.m.–7 p.m. daily). The licensed club bar and restaurant has a full breakfast menu (eggs, pancakes, meats), and a lunchtime offering of soups, salads, burgers, codfish cakes, fish tacos, shrimp po’boys, and vegetarian wraps (dishes $7–16). Golfers, caddies, locals, and visitors also drop in for tasty nibbles such as popcorn shrimp, codfish balls, and conch fritters.
The restaurant has an inside dining area, but the best tables are on the terrace overlooking the greens and the azure swath of ocean beyond. Locals also swarm here for an out-of-town Friday happy hour (4–8 p.m.) and for the popular Sunday brunch of codfish and potatoes, dished out with the staple accompaniments: bananas, avocado, tomato sauce, eggs, bacon, and toast.
