Running and Walking

Walking enthusiasts will find plenty of off-road trails in Warwick [1], namely throughout the coastal parklands and along the Railway Trail. On the dunes, twisting sand or dirt trails, hemmed by oleanders, bay-grapes, prickly pears, and Spanish bayonets, are occasionally nosebleed-steep (one hill north of Chaplin Bay [2] is dubbed “Kilimanjaro” by local runners). The trails are also pitted by knee-deep crab holes, so watch your step.

The Warwick Railway Trail goes from Cobb’s Hill past Belmont golf course, a picturesque stretch of jasmine and fiddlewoods, quarries, local neighborhoods, and farmland frequented by runners, walkers, and cyclists, particularly in the evenings.

South Shore Road, unlike many other major roads on the island, has ample grassy verges for safe walking and running.
