For a quick “greeze” (grease), as Bermudians call their soul-food lunches, drop in to The Upper Crust café at Warwick Workman’s Club (42 Cobb’s Hill Road, tel. 441/232-0123, 11 a.m.–11 p.m. Mon.–Thurs., 11 a.m.–midnight Fri. and Sat., noon–10 p.m. Sun.). Line up with the local crowd for pan-fried wahoo, pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, wraps, salads, onion rings—even Indian curries—at this longtime Warwick [1] café now run by the efficient island-wide chain. Codfish breakfast with Johnny bread and “all the trimmings” is served every Sunday morning.
The Swizzle South Shore (87 South Shore Rd., tel. 441/236-7459, lunch 11 a.m.–6 p.m., dinner 6–10 p.m., bar 11:30 a.m.–1 a.m. daily) draws crowds of devoted regulars, who come for the namesake drink, but also the convivial party-like atmosphere. Like its Hamilton Parish [2] landmark, this Swizzle offers a full menu of comforting pub grub (burgers, nachos, spicy fries), as well as local seafood and pizzas. Barbecues through summer weekends offer pork ribs and steaks galore.
