On Camber Road, just around the corner from the Clocktower Mall [1], Makin’ Waves (tel. 441/234-5319, info [at] makinwaves [dot] bm, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. daily) relocated its popular swimwear and beachgear store from the Clocktower Mall in 2009. The much larger 2,000-square-foot space is a giant surf shop with everything for fun “in, on, or under the water,” in the words of owner Stuart Joblin. This includes swimwear and shades by Maui Jim and Oakley, a full range of snorkeling equipment, souvenirs, casual wear from brands like Billabong, Rip Curl, Roxy and Quiksilver, sandals, flip-flops, board shorts, skim and body boards, as well as large stand-up paddle boards.

Bermuda Clayworks (tel. 441/234-5116, fax 441/234-3136, www.bermudaclayworks.com [2], summer 9 a.m.–6 p.m. or later daily, winter 10 a.m.–5 p.m. daily) has a floor full of bright ceramics for sale, and a worldwide shipping service so you don’t have to lug breakables home.

You can watch free glassblowing and flameworking demonstrations at Dockyard Glassworks (tel. 441/234-4216, fax 441/234-3813, www.dockglass.com [3], 8 a.m.–6 p.m. daily), where artists create beautiful art glass in the Venetian tradition. An adjoining retail gallery sells the rainbow of glassworks, which make elegant souvenirs and gifts, including Christmas ornaments.

Next door, sample nine different flavors of the island’s favorite dessert at the Bermuda Rum Cake Company (tel. 441/234-4216, fax 441/234-3813, www.bermudarumcakes.com [4], 8 a.m.–6 p.m. daily). Varieties include black rum, rum swizzle, dark chocolate rum, and banana rum.
