Bermuda banned smoking in enclosed public places and work areas in 2006. The law outlaws smoking in bars, restaurants, shops, cinemas, or any enclosed workplace—in line with similar rulings in North America and Europe. The law also prohibits cigarette vending machines on the island, and the sale of cigarettes to anyone under age 18. Penalties for smokers who defy the law are $250, or $1,000 for repeat offenders.
