Mail and Courier Services

Airmail travels to and from the island daily. Mail received by 9:30 a.m. at the General Post Office (56 Church St., Hamilton, tel. 441/297-7893, gpo [at] gov [dot] bm) is sent out the same day but may take several days to reach its destination. Mail sent internationally via the sub–post offices in the parishes must first go to the General Post Office, sometimes taking a day or two to exit the island. Stamps for a postcard to the United States and Canada cost 70 cents; to Europe, 80 cents; to Africa, Asia, and Australasia, 90 cents. Letters weighing 10 grams are five cents more, plus up to 50 cents on top for each additional 10 grams. The General Post Office is open 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–noon Saturday. Parish post offices are open 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday–Friday. Surface mail is airlifted to and from Bermuda frequently. International Data Express (tel. 441/297-7802), a service offered through the General Post Office, is a 48-hour mail service delivering to most international destinations; it requires mail be posted by 10:30 a.m. for same-day dispatch.

Local company Mailboxes Unlimited, at three locations, offers mail and courier services, including boxing and wrapping, as well as full-scale moving services for larger items. The main office (48 Par-la-Ville Rd., Hamilton, tel. 441/292-6563, fax 441/292-6587) sells boxes, envelopes, bubble wrap, labels, tape, and pens. There are also Mailboxes outlets at 12 Church St., Hamilton (tel. 441/296-5656) and 2 Lovers Lane, Paget (tel. 441/236-5142).

All major international courier services have offices in Bermuda, in some cases several outlets.
