Beaufort County comprises over 60 islands, so it’s no surprise that nearly all recreation in the area revolves around the water, which dominates so many aspects of life in the Lowcountry. The closer to the ocean you get, the more it’s a salt marsh environment. But as you explore more inland, in the sprawling ACE Basin [1], you’ll encounter primarily blackwater.
