Another longtime lunch favorite is Magnolia Bakery Café (703 Congress St., 843/524-1961, Mon.–Sat. 9 a.m.–5 p.m., under $10). It’s a little ways north of the usual tourist area, but well worth going out of your way for (Beaufort [1]’s pretty small, after all). Lump crab cakes are a particular specialty item, but you can’t go wrong with any of the lunch sandwiches. They even offer a serviceable crepe.
Veggie diners are particularly well taken care of with a large selection of black bean burger plates. As the name indicates, the range of desserts here is tantalizing, to say the least, with the added bonus of a serious espresso bar.
