São Paulo [1] is a food-lovers’ haven that few other cities in the world can rival. Paulistanos love to eat out and the city has a fantastically diverse restaurant scene with something for every palate and wallet.
At the high-end of the scale are world-class kitchens ruled over by innovative chefs that offer both traditional and contemporary cuisine at prices more affordable than the equivalent eating experiences would cost in London, Paris, or New York. Even so, if your purse strings are tight, many top restaurants offer weekday lunchtime executivo menus that allow you to sample toned-down versions of master chefs’ creations at a fraction of the price.
At the other end of the price spectrum, numerous bakeries, cafés, and bars offer bites, snacks, sandwiches, and other forms of sustenance for every occasion and appetite.
Due to its diverse immigrant population, the city is also rich in international cuisine, with special mention going to Lebanese, Japanese, and Italian. In terms of the latter, Sampa’s ristorantes, cantinas, and pizzerias offer some of the best cocina italiana this side of the Atlantic. In fact, in São Paulo [1], pizza is as much a staple as feijoada, and many claim you can get a better pizza here than in Italy.
