At the Mercado Público (see Sights) you’ll find regional wines, erva maté (as well as cuias and bombas), and local handicrafts. On Sunday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., head to the centrally located Parque Farroupilha (also known as Redenção) for the very lively Brique de Redenção, a Sunday flea market featuring a great mix of art, antiques, and regional handicrafts.
For sophisticated shopping, check out the fashionable boutiques in Porto’s chicest mall, Moinhos Shopping (Rua Olavo Barreto 36, Moinhos do Vento, tel. 51/3346-6013, www.moinhosshopping.com.br [1], 10 a.m.–10 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 3–8 p.m. Sun.), which also boasts a fancy food court and a cineplex.
