This peninsula, squeezed between the Bay of Camamu and the open Atlantic, is a region of great natural beauty composed of beaches, islands, rivers, lagoons, dunes, and mangrove swamps. The easiest way to explore the area is by traveling to the mainland city of Camamu, 330 kilometers (205 miles) south of Salvador [1], and then taking a boat across the Bay of Camamu to the fishing village and main resort town of Barra Grande [2].
