Café Restaurante Don Mucho (El Panchán, Carr. Ruinas Km. 4.5, tel. 916/341-8209, 7 a.m.–midnight daily, US$3–12) is a popular spot in the jungle neighborhood of El Panchán. Italian and Mexican dishes fill the menu, mostly homemade pastas, wood-oven pizzas, and comida típica. There’s often live music and fire dancers too, which keeps the place hopping 8–11 p.m.
Mayabell (Carr. Ruinas Km. 5.5, tel. 916/348-4271, www.mayabell.com.mx [1], 8 a.m.–9 p.m. daily, US$5–10) is a short walk from Palenque [2]’s site museum and a great spot for lunch after a long morning visiting the ruins. Order at the counter from a menu that ranges from spaghetti to sandwiches to grilled chicken and beef. Portions are generous, and there are plenty of vegetarian options. A jarra (jug) of cold fruit juice is a bargain at just US$4, and a godsend on hot muggy days.
