Agua Clara (40 km/25 mi south of Palenque, 7 a.m.–6 p.m. daily, US$1.50) is a pretty spot where the Río Tulijá [1] slows into a long, wide pool between sloping stone banks. It’s a good place to appreciate the river’s famous turquoise color.
A long rope bridge spans the river from a high bluff, and one or two tourists usually dare each other into making the long, whooping plunge from the middle of the bridge into the water below.
Though peaceful and picturesque, Agua Clara has the least “wow” factor of the three riverside sites, and some tours skip it in favor of having more time at the other two.
Near the entrance are a restaurant and bathrooms, and you can rent kayaks to ply the tranquil waters, or arrange guided hiking and horseback tours further along the river.
Agua Clara’s access road was closed at the time of research, but will likely reopen by the time you read this. It is about three kilometers from the highway to the falls.
