Forty-five minutes north of Copán Ruinas [1] is a century-old hacienda and coffee plantation,
Finca El Cisne (tel. 504/651-4695, www.fincaelcisne.com [2], US$30 s, US$45 d, breakfast included). Finca El Cisne offers one- to four-day visits, in which travelers explore on horseback, learn about coffee and cardamom production, hike the surrounding primary forest, and relax in thermal baths as an experience in the farming life (tours in English or Spanish).
Overnight visitors stay in an adobe guesthouse. Day visits cost US$59 per person; it’s US$77 per person when combined with a night in the “Casa Castejón.”
About half an hour east of Copán Ruinas [1], is Finca Santa Isabel (tel. 504/651-4204, www.cafehonduras.com [3]), the plantation and processing plant for Welchez coffee. Half-day tours are offered that include transportation from Copán Ruinas and a meal for $30 per person. If you have your own wheels, you can come at anytime, and the staff on-site will arrange the tour and meal for US$25.
Numerous birds make their homes in the coffee trees, so keep your eyes peeled as you walk the trails.
