Two similar new places almost opposite each other on Avenida 2 SO are San Jorge (tel. 504/662-2521, US$21 s, US$32 d, a/c available for US$5 more) and Alondra (tel. 504/662-1194, US$17 s, US$29 d), the former with enormous and rather barren rooms (although with parking and free wireless Internet), and the latter cozier and friendlier, and with great showers.

For travelers getting in late or leaving early, Hotel Grand Mayaland (tel. 504/662-0233, US$21 s, US$36 d), across from the bus station on the highway below town, has its own restaurant and modern rooms, and breakfast is included with the room. The hotel parking lot has a night watchman, and there’s also a pool.

The best hotel in Santa Rosa [1] is Hotel Elvir (tel./fax 504/662-0103, www.hotelelvir.com [2], US$35 s, US$47 d, US$11–13 more for a/c), three blocks west of the park on Calle Centenario, with modern rooms; credit cards accepted. The staff is helpful and the cafeteria serves tasty and reasonably priced food. Room service and Internet are available, and there’s a pool, too.

Max Elvir, an enthusiastic promoter of small-scale tourism in the area, runs Lenca Travel [3] out of the hotel, offering tours of surrounding villages and natural areas, including Celaque [4], Monte Quetzal [5], Belén Gualcho [6], San Manuel Colohete [7], and any other place you might want to visit. Rates depend on how many people want to go, and Max—who speaks English—is an excellent and affable guide. If you have your own wheels, Max charges US$75 per day for guiding only.

A new hotel with a charming old colonial style is the Hotel Antiguo Roble (tel. 504/662-0472, US$26 s, US$36 d, hotelantiguoroble [at] hotmail [dot] es), half a block east of BAMER bank. The hotel has clean rooms with air-conditioning, free wireless Internet in the lobby, and a coffee shop. Guests receive a coupon for a free coffee and pastry for breakfast.

A step up in comfort is Hotel Casa Real (tel. 504/662-0802, US$42 s, US$57 d), four blocks northwest of the parque, with clean rooms with TV and hot water, or a bit more for air-conditioning. Amenities include free wireless Internet throughout the hotel, a nice, clean swimming pool, and a restaurant open until 10 p.m. that even serves tea.

Hotel VIP Copán (tel. 504/662-1576, US$25 s, US$37 d), two blocks east of the church, has smallish rooms (with the exception of its spacious suites), an attractive swimming pool, and parking.
