Another budget option, on the road heading out of town, is Hotel San Antonio (US$5.50 pp) for basic rooms with shared baths.
The modern Hotel San Francisco (tel. 504/656-1559, www.hotel-sanfrancisco.com [1], US$20 s, US$24 d, with fan, US$29 s/d with a/c), above a shop a block west of the parque central, has spacious, travel lodge–style rooms with cable TV and nice bathrooms. The windows in rooms 1 and 2 face out toward the street and hills, while the windows of all other rooms face the interior hall.
Around the corner from Hotel Guancascos [2], conveniently sandwiched between a decent restaurant and an Internet café, is Hotel San Sebastián (tel. 504/656-0398, hotel-sansebastian [at] yahoo [dot] com, US$17 s, US$24 d, US$2.50 more for air-conditioning). The eight simple rooms have TVs and clean, good bathrooms.
Hotel Fernando (tel. 504/656-1231, fmg1insoprosa [at] yahoo [dot] com, US$16 s, US$21 d), a block north of Hotel Guancascos on the same street, has seven double rooms in a motel layout, the exterior of each one painted in a different color. The rooms have fans, cable TV, and wireless Internet (at least in the rooms closest to the router at the hotel restaurant).
