Lenca Villages South of Gracias
The “Colosuca Community,” as defined by Gracias’s tourist office, encompasses the hillside villages of La Campa , San Marcos Caiquín , San Manuel Colohete , San Sebastián , and Belén , with the town of Gracias as the hub. All but Belén have beautiful and grandiose colonial churches, vestiges of the influence and religious fervor of Guatemala City in the 1700s.
Major efforts have been made to develop community tourism, and there are increasing numbers of activities and amenities for visitors. A trip to La Campa and San Manuel Colohete can easily be made in a day if you have or arrange your own transportation, or adventurous travelers can easily stretch out their time in the region over several days, with plenty of great hiking in the pine-covered hills.
