Cozy and charismatic,
Hotel Casagrande B&B (7a Calle NO, tel. 504/772-0772, casagrandecomayagua [at] yahoo [dot] es, US$50 s, US60 d, breakfast included) is a nine-room colonial hotel with carved wood furniture and bathrooms decorated with hand-painted tiles. It’s reminiscent of the colonial hotels in places like Antigua, Guatemala, and we wish there were more places like this. There soon may be, as Casa Grande is planning an annex across the street. One more plus? Although they do raise rates during Semana Santa [1], it’s only by about US$10.
Modern, and a bit overpriced considering the so-so service, is the motel-style Hotel Santa María (tel. 504/772-7872 or 504/772-8934, fax 504/772-7719, US$58 s/d), on the San Pedro–Tegucigalpa highway just outside of town. Rooms have air-conditioning, hot water, telephone, and cable TV.
