Two first-division fútbol (soccer) teams, Olimpia and Montagua, play their games in the Estadio Nacional (National Stadium) near downtown Tegucigalpa [1]. Matches are frequently held on weekends, with ticket prices running US$1.25–8 for normal league games and US$2–10 for national team matches.
It’s often possible to buy tickets at the box office right before the game, but for big matches it might be better to buy a day in advance. (Beware that big games can mean big drinking for fans—smaller games will be less rowdy.) In the rare event that a game sells out, the revendedores will be out in front of the stadium, reselling tickets at a (usually minimal) markup.
After any victories by the national team, known variously as La Bicolor or El Equipo de Todos, the favored place to cruise and celebrate is on Boulevard Morazán. Should either of the local teams win a national championship, victory celebrations can also be expected.
