Those after a good workout in Tegucigalpa [1] can head to Cybex (tel. 504/239-5132), a couple of blocks off Morazán, in Colonia Minitas. The gleaming gym has a 25-meter pool (the only covered pool in town), basketball court, squash and racquetball courts (although you need your own racquet), a sauna and steam room, and plenty of the Cybex machines you may be familiar with from gyms at home. One-day visits cost US$16. A number of classes (dance, Pilates, spinning) are offered, as well as swimming, basketball, tae kwon do, and soccer for children.
Another, much cheaper option is Gold’s Gym (tel. 504/236-7120), off Morazán almost toward the end, with a full gym (including sauna) and a 25-meter outdoor pool. Regular membership is US$35 to join, then US$37 per month, but visitors can pay US$8 for a one-day visit, US$26 for one week.
Metta Studios is a new Pilates studio a block off Boulevard Suyapa that also has regular gym equipment and a small room for exercise classes.
It is possible to become a member of the pool and gym at the Honduras Maya Hotel, or simply have lunch or drinks poolside and use the pool for the day. The Marriott [2] also offers membership to its health club and pool. You can also get a massage at either hotel. Use of the pool at the Hotel MacArthur downtown costs US$5 for the day.
