Right in town is Posada del Ángel (tel. 504/766-2233, US$20 s, US$35 d), offering 20 rooms around a large courtyard with a pool in the middle. The property has charm, making the rather dark and bare-bones rooms a disappointment. They do have hot water and cable TV, and there’s also a restaurant, parking lot, and conference rooms. It’s best to reserve for a weekend visit, as they often fill up. The pool is also available for day use for US$2.50.
Hospedaje Los Naranjitos (tel. 504/7666-3138, US$16 s, US$21, cold water only), a couple of blocks beyond Posada del Ángel, has very plain rooms, some without even windows, and no water in the hotel 6 p.m.–4 a.m. Although exorbitantly priced for what you get, the rooms are clean enough if the Posada del Ángel is somehow full.
Just outside of town, a kilometer up the road toward San Juancito, is Villas del Valle (tel. 504/766-2534, www.villasdelvalle.com [1], standard cabins US$32 s, US$36 d, US$51 family). The brick cabins each have fans, hot water, refrigerators, and TV, and most have a hammock hanging out front. There is also one “apartment” cabin that has a kitchenette and two-person dining table wedged into the room. There is a small aboveground pool and some children’s play equipment. It’s nothing fabulous, but decent.
La Casa San Martin (tel. 504/9716-3542, www.lacasasanmartin.com [2]) is also outside of town, a country home with amenities like a Jacuzzi, renting rooms for US$30–35 per person per day, all meals included. They can organize activities such as trekking or learning handicrafts or Spanish.
