The fanciest joint in San Marcos de Colón [1] is Hotel Barcelona (tel. 504/788-3870, US$13 s, US$18 d), a modern two-story hotel facing the market. Rooms are clean although the linens are a touch dingy, and there is a restaurant with a nice view.
Hotel Colonial (tel. 504/788-3822, US$13 s, US$14.50 d), two blocks west of the central park toward the highway, has a bit more charm, and the rooms have air-conditioning.
Hotel Shalom (tel. 504/788-3643, US$12 s, US$15 d) is on the same street four blocks east of Banco BGA (uphill). It’s a little more bare-bones, but there is a great city view from the top floor conference room. Hotel Ipanema (tel. 504/788-3091) is a similar option with similar prices.
Twenty kilometers away on the highway back toward Choluteca [2], at kilometer marker 173, is Hotel Monte Lorenza (tel. 504/887-4819, US$26–32 per cabin), a small rustic spot perched on the hillside with great views from its restaurant and the two-bedroom cabin. The restaurant is decked out as if for a wedding reception, but it provides typical Honduran fare at standard prices.
