Several interesting galleries are in Old San Juan [1]. Among the best is Galeria Botello (208 Calle Cristo, Old San Juan, 787/723-9987 or 787/723-2879, fax 787/724-6776, botellosj [at] msn [dot] com, www.botello.com [2], Mon.–Sat. 10 a.m.–6 p.m.). Although he was born in Spain, renowned artist Angel Botello spent most of his life in the Caribbean, eventually settling in Puerto Rico [3], where he opened this gallery. Although he died in 1986, the artist lives on through his paintings and sculptures on view at the gallery, which also exhibits solo shows by contemporary artists.
Galeria Exodo (200-B Calle Cristo, Old San Juan, 787/725-4252 or 787/671-4159, galeriaexodo [at] gmail [dot] com, www.galeriaexodo.com [4], Mon.–Fri. 11 a.m.–7 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Sun. 11 a.m.–5 p.m.)—formerly Fósil Arte—has a wide diversity of mostly high-quality works by contemporary artists, both Puerto Rican and international.
The Butterfly People (257 Calle de la Cruz, Old San Juan, 787/723-2432 or 787/723-2201, info [at] butterflypeople [dot] com, www.butterflypeople.com [5], 10 a.m.–6 p.m. daily) is a unique gallery that sells fantastic colorful pieces composed of real butterflies mounted in Lucite.
