El Jardín Botánico (Hwy. 1 at Carr. 847 in Río Piedras, 787/250-0000, ext. 6578, or 787/767-1701, daily 6 a.m.–6 p.m., free, guides available by special arrangement 10 a.m.–1 p.m.) is a 289-acre urban garden filled with tropical and subtropical vegetation, including orchids, heliconias, bromeliads, palms, and bamboo. There’s also a native Taíno garden display of native plants. It is maintained by the University of Puerto Rico.
