Santurce’s club scene primarily serves the gay community, but beware that it can be a rough part of town, especially at night. Panhandlers and petty thieves are known to prowl the area, so take precautions.
Santurce is home to several gay clubs. Krash (1257 Ave. Ponce de León, 787/722-1131, www.krashpr.com [1], Wed.–Sat. 10 p.m.–3 a.m., $6 after midnight), formerly Eros, is a major two-level party scene. Wednesday is urban pop night with three DJs spinning R&B, hip-hop, and reggaetón. Thursday and Friday nights feature DJs spinning house, tribal, and retro.
For a casual low-key gay bar, check out Junior’s Bar (613 Calle Condado, 787/723-9477, daily, two-drink minimum). This is the place to have a beer, play some tunes on the jukebox, and check out the occasional drag queen or male stripper show.
Yet another popular gay bar and lounge in Santurce is Starz (365 Ave. de Diego, 787/721-8645).
The local lesbian crowd gathers in the laid-back ambiance of Cups (1708 Calle San Mateo, 787/268-3570, Wed.–Fri. 7 p.m.–3 a.m., Sat. 8 p.m.–3 a.m.). DJs spin dance music on Wednesday nights, karaoke is Thursday nights, and live music is Friday nights. There are pool tables too.
Club Le Cirque (357 Calle San Francisco, 787/725-3246, Wed.–Sat. 6 p.m.–4 a.m.), in Old San Juan, is a gay bar and lounge serving lunch and dinner. Smoking is allowed on the patio.
