Festival de Cuatristas y Trovadores (Plaza de Recreo, Morovis, 787/862-2155) is a celebration of traditional Puerto Rican music and art held in mid-July. Local artisans who make cuatros, stringed guitarlike instruments, demonstrate their craft. Cuatro musicians and troubadours perform as well.
Festival de Pastel (Orocovis, 787/867-5000, ext. 2295) is a culinary festival held in late November for three days noon–midnight in honor of the pastel, a Taíno dish traditionally eaten during the Christmas holidays. Similar to a tamale, it’s made of mashed, seasoned plantain filled with fried pork that’s wrapped in a banana leaf and steamed. Festivities include live music and artisan vendors.
