Restaurante Don Pedro (Hacienda Gripiñas, Carr. 527, km 2.5, 787/828-1717 or 787/828-1718, fax 787/828-1719, gripinas [at] excite [dot] com, www.haciendagripinas.com [1], $8–35) serves breakfast and dinner, featuring seafood, steaks, and local cuisine. It’s a good option if you stick to simple local dishes, such as the fried meaty ribs, which are tender and tasty. Stay away from more ambitious dishes, such as the onion soup, which comes with a gluey slice of American cheese on top. The attractive dining room in the middle of the hacienda is distinguished by a tree that grows from beneath the floor and spreads its limbs over the tables below.

Kafé de la Tierra Alta (Carr. 144, just west of Jayuya, 787/828-9236, Sun.–Wed. 8 a.m.–9 p.m.) is a clean modern spot serving breakfast and Puerto Rican cuisine, including fried chicken and roast pork.

Panderia Jayuya Cafeteria (Carr. 144, km 1.7, just west of Jayuya, 787/828-3186, daily 6 a.m.–10 p.m.) has a good selection of groceries, produce, baked goods, and a steam table with rice, beans, and other Puerto Rican dishes.

Restaurant La Casona (Carr. 144, km 1.6, just west of Jayuya, 787/828-3347, daily 10 a.m.–10 p.m.) is a great casual rustic restaurant and bar with indoor and patio seating and serving Puerto Rican cuisine. There are two bars, several pool tables, and live music at night.
