The judicial system in Puerto Rico [1] is structured the same as in the United States. The highest local court is the Supreme Court, consisting of a chief justice and six associate justices appointed by the governor. There is a Court of Appeals, Superior Court, a civil and criminal District Court, and Municipal Court. The U.S. Federal Court, based in San Juan [2], has final authority.
