With so much written and filmed about the usual suspects of Southwestern history, it’s easy to forget that Tucson [2] is as multicultural as a city can be, albeit on a rather smaller scale than most. Tucson Meet Yourself, an annual festival held October 10–12 at El Presidio Park downtown, shows off just how diverse the city is.
If you’re going, go hungry. Dozens of cultural clubs—from Colombians to Danes to Koreans to Irish to Poles, Russians, Navajo, and more—cook up and sell their national cuisine, making it possible to have catfish, sweet-potato pie, roasted corn, fry bread, and pickled herring all in one meal. The festival also features folk-art demonstrations.
