This 131-acre greenscape on the southern end of midtown is probably the city’s favorite non-desert playground, with plenty of imported tree–shade and cool bermuda grass for lounging and forgetting. The park has, among dozens of other attractions, two small duck-topped lakes (no swimming), a bandshell and amphitheater for concerts under the stars, and an off-leash dog park.
The playground equipment is all cool submarine-style passageways, twisting slides, fire poles, and sky-reaching swing sets, and several layers of soft wood chips and some bouncy outdoor foam flooring provide for soft landings.
Hi Corbett Stadium, where the Colorado Rockies train every spring, is located on the park’s grounds, as are the Reid Park Zoo [2], a large modern recreation and aquatics center, a tennis facility, and a golf course.
