The Capilla de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios (Calle de las Damas at Las Mercedes) was built in the 1500s in classic Gothic style, intended as a private chapel and mausoleum for the prominent families of Santo Domingo [1], like the Ovando and Davila families.
This tiny church is unmistakable as you walk along Calle de las Damas [2], with its brick facade and triple-arched belfry. It was rebuilt in 1884 after being shut down for a short period because it was pronounced unsafe. Today, masses are held there.
