The Parlor (1916 E. Camelback Rd., 602/248-2480, 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Mon.–Thurs., 11 a.m.–midnight Fri.–Sat., $8–16), a stylish new pizzeria in the Camelback Corridor, quickly won over Phoenicians when it opened in 2009. A glamorous makeover has preserved a few retro details from the building’s previous life as the Salon de Venus, though its sleek new look—with polished-concrete floors and recycled-wood tables—has made the restaurant a hit, especially the popular bar (don’t miss the refreshing basil gimlet). The kitchen serves Italian favorites, including a pappardelle bolognese with meat sauce, shaved pecorino, and rosemary oil, as well as a delicious selection of salads that you’ll want to share. Order one of the wood-fired pizzas, like the Pesto or the Smokey, which is topped with ricotta, olive tapenade, arugula, and smoked prosciutto.
