Frontier Town

Whether you arrive by car or motorcycle, the shops at Cave Creek [1]’s Frontier Town (6245 E. Cave Creek Rd., North Scottsdale, 480/488-9129) will seem like another world compared to Scottsdale [2]’s high-end shopping centers. Join the “Creekers” and bikers who frequent the barber shop and saloon. Amble down the touristy wooden sidewalks, and pick up a few Arizona souvenirs at the Gloria Bee’s or the Totem Pole (you can’t miss its carved namesake out front). Leather Mill sells jackets, chaps, and other “motorcycle leather goods.”

Just down the street, The Town Dump (6820 E. Cave Creek Rd., 480/488-9047, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. daily) is packed with furniture, old light fixtures, giant metal lizards, rusted gates, and brightly painted Mexican pottery. The indoor/outdoor shop almost lives up to its motto as “one of the world’s most unusual stores.”
