After tracking down impossibly perfect views of the red rocks, shopping is probably Sedona [1]’s most popular activity, with the vast majority of stores targeting the out-of-state visitors who flock here for a taste of Arizona—or to experience the New Age energy. Small specialty stores selling cactus jellies, cowboy boots and hats, colorful pottery, and mystical gemstones line Highways 179 and 89A. And you won’t have to search long to find Native American arts and crafts, like handmade Navajo rugs and kachina dolls.

Also, Sedona’s thriving gallery scene attracts serious collectors as well as first-time buyers. The 50-some galleries range from mammoth, light-filled spaces selling large-format bronzes and contemporary pieces to intimate studios specializing in Western-themed canvases. Even if art isn’t your “thing,” the gallery scene is a quintessential part of Sedona and shouldn’t be missed.

You’ll find the greatest concentration of souvenir shops, metaphysical boutiques, and galleries in Uptown. If you’re looking for gifts for friends and family back home, the gourmet salsas, outdoor wind sculptures, silver jewelry, and “healing” crystals can be fun and a little kitschy. You may even want to consider splurging on a handcrafted piece of furniture or canvas to remember your trip.
