The red rocks steal a lot of attention, but there’s plenty to see outside of Sedona , which makes an excellent home base to explore some of the region’s other notable natural attractions and historic sites. Within 10 minutes of Uptown Sedona, you can drive Arizona’s first officially designated scenic highway through the leafy forests of Oak Creek Canyon .
Head 25 minutes south, and you’ll find one of the country’s most impressive Native American ruins, the cliffside Montezuma Castle . And if you travel 30 minutes east, you’ll land in the historic—and haunted—mining town of Jerome .
Even if you’re in Sedona for just a few days, be sure to make some time to visit one of these areas.
