The Granary (1930 Stickney Point Rd., 941/924-4754, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Sun.) is an organic grocery located between Siesta Key [1] and mainland Sarasota [2]; the deli and salad bar are great for a ready-made vegetarian meal to eat back in your room, and the store has everything you’ll need to stock up on supplies for an organic beach picnic.
Simon’s Coffee House (5900 S. Tamiami Tr., 941/926-7151, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Mon.–Sat., main courses from $6) has a number of vegan and vegetarian options on its breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus; although the menus are not strictly meat-free, tempeh and tofu form the cornerstone of several of their meals. Crepes and breakfast wraps are on offer in the morning, soups and sandwiches for lunch, and dinner dishes include curried vegetables, panini pizza, tempeh meat loaf, shrimp fettuccini, and more. The whole food–oriented Simon’s also serves coffee, smoothies, and even beer and wine.
