OK, sure, the Bob Ross Art Workshop & Gallery (757 E. 3rd Ave., 386/423-4346, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Mon.–Sat., free) is just another art shop in a strip mall. But the smiling soft-spoken man who taught so many PBS viewers about the Joy of Painting called New Smyrna Beach [1] his home when he died, and this official gallery of his work still functions as a working studio, where aspiring painters can come to learn.
Classes are in full-day and half-day increments, and at the end of every “Make It, Take It” class, students have a finished painting they can show off to friends and family, if not their neighborhood art critic. The vibe is appropriately laid-back and appropriately commercial; guests can buy an array of branded supplies and prints.
