Southeast Portland

Southeast Portland [1] is filled with restaurant enclaves, where it’s a good idea just to park the car and wander the streets before making a dining choice. While some of Portland [2]’s most popular and acclaimed restaurants are in the industrial warehouses of Inner Southeast Portland, just across the Willamette River from downtown, other neighborhoods are almost totally devoted to dining.

There are so many restaurants along a six-block stretch of 28th Avenue and East Burnside Street that the area is referred to not as 28th East but as 28th Feast.

The heart of Portland [2]’s evergreen, seemingly unaging hippie community is SE Belmont Street and SE Hawthorne Avenue [3], and you can expect to find lots of moderately priced cafés, pubs, and restaurants along these streets—along with boutique shopping and superlative people-watching.

Further south are more streets lined with restaurants. In the last five years, SE Division Street and SE Clinton Street have blossomed as dining destinations. Sellwood [4], at one time a separate town south of Portland, offers a real neighborhood atmosphere and a handful of excellent dining choices.
