Canyon Way Bookstore and Restaurant (1216 SW Canyon Way, 541/265-8319, 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Tues.–Sat., $11–17) has been a mainstay of Newport [1]’s culinary and cultural scene since 1971. A combination restaurant, art gallery, clothing boutique, and bookstore, it offers something for everybody.
You don’t have to be a guest to have a meal at the Tables of Content (267 NW Cliff St., 541/265-5428, seatings at 7 p.m. Sun.–Fri., 6 and 8:30 p.m. Sat., four-course prix fixe $23.50), the excellent restaurant at the Sylvia Beach Hotel. There’s a nice view of the breakers, good company, and it’s a good value for creatively prepared Northwest cuisine. Each night features several entrée selections with an appetizer, salad, bread, beverages (alcohol not included), and dessert.
Diners share tables and are encouraged to break the ice with a game called Two Truths and a Lie, in which they regale each other with several stories, the object being to distinguish which one is untrue. Reservations are mandatory.
