Near Miles Field is Bear Creek Golf Course (2325 South Pacific Hwy., 541/773-1822). This is a compact nine-hole course that’s both a challenge and a bargain at $9 per round on weekdays. Cedar Links Golf Course (3144 Cedar Links Dr., 541/773-4373, $12), in northeast Medford [1], is another beautiful public nine-hole course. To get there, take Route 62 north toward White City and turn right on Delta Waters Road, right again on Springbrook Road, and then left on Cedar Links Drive.

Eagle Point Golf Course (100 Eagle Point Dr., Eagle Point, 541/826-8225, www.eaglepointgolf.com [2], high season $42 weekdays, $50 weekends) is arguably the finest course in the Rogue River Valley. Designed by Robert Trent Jones II, this 175-acre collection of golf holes boasts enough character to challenge beginners and experts alike. Impressive views of Mount McLoughlin and Table Rocks [3] add to the experience. Carts, clubs, and shoes are available for rent.
