An aggressive renovation at the Kansas City Zoo in May 2008 added a North American river otter exhibit, a zoo learning center, and reconstructed parking lots and admission gates to the 202-acre facility. The zoo’s four largest sections—Africa, Australia, KidZone, and Tiger Trail—offer an up-close look at native species, habitat information, and more.
The zoo also hosts one of North America’s largest chimpanzee environments, as well as a Discovery Barn filled with exotic species like meerkats and lemurs. Explore the zoo with several transportation options including boats, trains, and trams, as well as tours by golf cart or Segway.
Three restaurants and six snack bars offer ample options for on-site dining and refreshments, and picnic areas are available if you’d prefer to pack a meal.
Zoo officials recommend arriving before 10 a.m. or after 2 p.m. to avoid the largest crowds.
