For breakfast, head to Diamond C Restaurant (223 Front St., 907/874-3677, daily 6 a.m.–3 p.m., $9–11).

With panoramic views across Zimovia Strait and the best meals in town, Stikine Inn Restaurant (107 Stikine Ave., 907/874-3388 or 888/874-3388, www.stikineinn.com [1], daily 11 a.m.–9:30 p.m. summer, daily 11 a.m.–8 p.m. winter, dinner entrées $15–30) is your best bet in Wrangell [2]. It’s open for lunch and dinner and serves big portions of fresh shrimp, halibut, salmon, steaks, burgers, pasta, salads, sandwiches, and other fare. A cozy room doubles as a morning espresso bar (great lattes) and smoke-free lounge, with a flat-screen TV and a fireplace. In addition to the Stikine Inn, you can find espresso—and use the free Wi-Fi—at the summer-only Java Junkie next to the downtown dock.

Zak’s Café (316 Front St., 907/874-3355, Mon.–Sat. 11 a.m.–8 p.m.) offers a good variety of food: pasta, stir-fries, and steaks for dinner ($14–22) and lunchtime salads, sandwiches, and wraps ($7–10). The setting is simple and clean, with fast service.

Bob’s IGA (Outer Dr., 907/874-2341) has a deli with inexpensive sandwiches. City Market (Front St., 907/874-3336) is Wrangell’s other grocery store. Both are closed on Sunday and at 6 p.m. other nights.

Locals hang out in the smoke-filled Marine Lounge (274 Shakes St., 907/874-3005)—a.k.a. the Hungry Beaver—which has the best pizzas in town, along with various pub grub. Tell them to go light on the cheese. It’s one of the few late-night place for food.
