The unique, private Glacier Gardens (7600 Glacier Hwy., 907/790-3377, www.glaciergardens.com [1], daily 9 a.m.–6 p.m. May–Sept., $22 adults, $16 ages 6–12, under 6 free) is eight miles north of downtown Juneau [2]. The gardens are spread over 50 acres of hillside forest and include hiking trails, waterfalls, ponds, and “flower tower” cascades of blooms from upside-down trees.
Motorized carts (some set up to carry wheelchairs) transport visitors along four miles of paved paths to an overlook 500 feet up the mountainside, with views across the Mendenhall Wetlands. The city bus stops out front.
