At the end of Hope Highway is the Forest Service’s Porcupine Campground (www.fs.fed.us/r10/chugach [1], $14), featuring fine views across Turnagain Arm [2] and red raspberries as hors d’oeuvres in late summer.
Gull Rock Trail begins from the campground and parallels the shoreline of Turnagain Arm. It’s a fairly easy stroll out to Gull Rock (5 miles), making this a popular family day hike or overnight camping trip. The beautiful Hope Point Trail starts at the campground and climbs a steep knob into the alpine area. From here you can hike forever along the ridgeline.
