Sailing

Sailors say Resurrection Bay contains some of the finest sailing waters north of San Francisco Bay, with windy conditions almost every day. Because of this, there are three local yacht clubs and dozens of sailboats berthed in the Small Boat Harbor.

In business for more than 30 years, Sailing, Inc. (907/224-3160, www.sailinginc.com [1], May–mid-Sept.) has classes for both novices and experts, but the real attractions are sailing trips onboard the Alaskan Rover, a classic 54-foot topsail schooner ($75 adults, $65 children). Guests can help hoist sails and take a turn at the helm but won’t be forced to walk the plank if they mess up.
