At Mile 160 on the Glenn Highway [1] (27 miles west of Glennallen [2]), the Lake Louise Road turns north, continuing 19 miles to this popular summer fishing and winter snowmobiling destination. The Lake Louise State Recreation Area has campsites ($15) and a swimming area for those who can brave the water.
Stay at Lake Louise Lodge (907/822-3311 or 877/878-3311, www.lakelouiselodge.com [3], year-round), where the log building overlooks the lake. Modern guest rooms ($115–150 d) include private baths, breakfast, and the use of canoes. Simple cabins ($70–80 d) share a bath in the lodge. There are a restaurant and bar, and you can also rent motorboats.
The Point Lodge at Lake Louise (907/822-5566 or 800/808-2018, www.thepointlodge.com [4]) has comfortable rooms with panoramic views from a wraparound deck. Rates are $90 s or $110 d in the lodge (shared bath) or $80 d in cabins (baths in the lodge). Guests in all units get a full breakfast and can use the sauna, canoe, and paddleboat. Family-style dinners are available.
