City-run Odiak Camper Park (907/424-7282, mid-Apr.–Sept.) is a half-mile out on Whitshed Road. Camping on this gravel-surfaced area overlooking Orca Inlet is $5 for tents (with showers) and RV sites with electricity are $20 (reservations required). Showers are also available at the harbormaster’s office.
If you’ve got wheels, head out of town toward the Million Dollar Bridge [1], and as soon as you pass Mile 17, you’re on Forest Service land. You can theoretically camp anywhere after this point, but the most comfortable places are at the roadside picnic area at Mile 22, or at the parking area of Alaganik Slough.
Out near the airport at Mile 13, Alaska River Expeditions (907/424-7238 or 800/776-1864, www.alaskarafters.com [2], June–mid-Oct., $15) provides a dozen forested campsites.
