Killer Whale Cafe (507 1st Ave., 907/424-7733) is a fine brunch spot. The big breakfast menu includes omelets, biscuits and gravy, and waffles, while lunchtime (around $10) features sandwiches, homemade soups, burgers, and salads, along with baked goods and espresso.

The wood-fired oven at Harborside Pizza (Nicholoff Way, 907/424-3730, closed Sun.) is put to great use baking creative pizzas, available by the pie or slice to go. They’ll deliver to your hotel for $2 extra.

Head two miles out on the Copper River Highway [1] to Powder House Bar and Restaurant (907/424-3529, daily 11 a.m.–9:30 p.m., dinner $17–28), where a deck overlooks pretty Lake Eyak. (Their motto: “I got blasted at the Powder House.”) Sandwiches, burgers, and soups are featured, but there are also daily lunch specials along with steak, halibut, clams, and salmon dinners. Powder House is now smoke-free.

OK Restaurant (616 1st St., 907/424-3433), serves better-than-OK Chinese, Korean, and American dishes, plus fresh sushi.

Alaska Commercial Co. (Nickoloff Rd., 907/424-7141, www.alaskacommercial.com [2], daily 8 a.m.–9 p.m. Apr.–Sept.) is Cordova [3]’s supermarket. Nearby is Baja Taco (907/424-5599, www.bajatacoak.com [4], $11 or less), where the friendly staff serves fish tacos, veggie burritos, chicken mole, breakfast burritos, espresso, and other fast food. Order from the kitchen in the funky old red bus and enjoy your meal in the adjacent building with a wraparound deck. Baja has free Wi-Fi.

The Reluctant Fisherman (407 Railroad Ave., 907/424-7445, www.reluctantfisherman.com [5], daily 11:30 a.m.–10 p.m., dinner entrées $17–24) is a surf-and-turf restaurant and lounge with a big back deck to take in the harbor action; free Wi-Fi is available.
