Nakiska (403/591-7777 or 800/258-7669, www.skinakiska.com [1]) is a state-of-the-art alpine resort built to host the alpine skiing events of the 1988 Winter Olympic Games. Great cruising and fast fall-line skiing on runs cut specially for racing will satisfy the intermediate-to-advanced crowd. The resort has a total of 28 runs and a vertical rise of 735 meters (2,410 feet). Lift tickets are adult $64, senior and youth $54, child $28. The most accessible of Kananaskis Country [3]’s 200 kilometers (124 miles) of cross-country trails are in the Ribbon Creek area. Most heavily used are those radiating from Kananaskis Village [4] and those around the base of Nakiska. Most trails are easy to intermediate, including a five-kilometer (3.1-mile) track up Ribbon Creek. Rentals are available in the Village Trading Post in Kananaskis Village.
